Partial wraps are typically needed for two main reasons: repairing damage from accidents or contaminants, or selectively changing the color of specific sections. This BMW 6GT falls into the former category, where the primary challenge was ensuring the new film perfectly matched the tone and texture of the surrounding original wrap, eliminating any visual discrepancies.

Pre-Installation Inspection and Preparation: Understanding the Existing Wrap

The Art of Partial Wrapping: Achieving Seamless Integration

The most critical aspect of a partial vinyl wrap is achieving a seamless blend between the new and existing film. This requires matching not only the color tone but also the texture and finish. Given the premium nature of the BMW 6 Series GT, the standards for finish quality are exceptionally high, demanding a highly precise approach.

Installation Process:

1. Careful Removal: The damaged film is meticulously removed using a heat gun (set to 60-70°C) to gently soften the adhesive. This slow, controlled removal prevents damage to the original paintwork.
2. Adhesive Residue Removal: Any remaining adhesive is completely cleaned off using an alcohol-based solution, followed by drying with a clean cloth. Incomplete drying can compromise the new film's adhesion and lead to bubbling.
3. New Film Application: The new vinyl is applied, using heat (around 40-50°C) and careful stretching to conform to the vehicle's curves, especially on the complex front end of the BMW 6GT.
4. Bubble Removal: Immediately after application, a squeegee is used to meticulously push out any trapped air bubbles from the center towards the edges.
