We recently had a 2025 Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG in our shop for a complete overhaul, featuring a matte Paint Protection Film (PPF) application, chrome blackout treatment, and interior carbon fiber accents. While the G63 is imposing from the factory, this combination of techniques elevates its presence to an entirely new level of presence and style. Let's explore how we enhanced the G63's unique characteristics while creating a truly personalized aesthetic.

Understanding the G63's Design for Customization

The G63 stands at the pinnacle of the G-Class lineup, defined by its iconic boxy silhouette, potent high-performance engine, and robust platform. A key design element to consider for protection is its upright windshield, which, due to its angle and height, can be more susceptible to impacts from road debris. This makes windshield protection a critical consideration. Furthermore, the G63 features extensive chrome trim across various elements – the front grille, star emblems (front and rear), bumper moldings, badging, and the spare tire cover. Strategically replacing or modifying these chrome accents, particularly with a black finish, offers a significant visual upgrade, creating a commanding all-black aesthetic.

Matte PPF: The Foundation for a Sophisticated Look

The first major step in this G63's transformation was the application of a full matte PPF. The client's goal extended beyond mere paint protection; they desired the sophisticated, understated presence that only a matte finish can provide. Unlike gloss finishes, matte surfaces reduce light reflection, creating a unique, calm, and refined appearance. PPF itself is a transparent film designed to shield the vehicle's paint from external scratches, UV rays, and contaminants, preventing paint discoloration and maintaining a pristine look over time. The high-grade domestic KF-21 rated film used in this application boasts excellent durability, resistance to contaminants, and superior scratch resistance.

Installation process:

1. Surface Preparation: Thoroughly clean and decontaminate the entire vehicle surface to ensure optimal adhesion.
2. Film Application: Carefully apply the matte PPF, meticulously working out any air bubbles or lifting to achieve a seamless finish.
3. Trimming and Sealing: Precisely trim the film edges and ensure proper sealing for long-term durability.

The result is a finish that preserves the vehicle's original color while adding a layer of sophisticated depth and protection. This matte PPF not only safeguards the paint but also imparts a distinctly luxurious feel.

Chrome Blackout: Completing the All-Black G63 Aesthetic

The next phase involved the 'chrome delete' process, where the vehicle's chrome accents were replaced with a sleek black finish. This transformation amplifies the G63's already imposing presence, lending it a sportier and more aggressive stance. Key areas addressed included the front grille, front and rear star emblems, bumper moldings, exterior badging, and the spare tire cover. For most of these components, we utilized genuine OEM parts that were professionally painted to match the factory black finish, then swapped them out. This method ensures a perfect fit without any modifications, maintaining the vehicle's structural integrity and avoiding panel gaps. The running boards were treated with a high-gloss PPF for a refined, unified look.

The transformation from chrome to black creates a cohesive and visually striking appearance, making the G63 appear more modern and powerful. Complementing this, the lighting elements – headlights, front turn signals, side repeaters, and taillights – were also updated with a blacked-out treatment using genuine replacement parts. While seemingly straightforward, this lighting modification requires expert installation to prevent issues like moisture ingress, poor electrical connections, or improper fitment, underscoring the importance of professional execution.
