While the Genesis GV80 offers a premium driving experience, its stock audio system might leave audiophiles wanting more. For those who truly want to immerse themselves in music while on the road, a GV80 car audio tuning is a transformative upgrade. Many luxury car owners, particularly those familiar with high-end audio, consider integrating a DSP amplifier a near-essential modification for achieving superior sound fidelity. This review details a recent installation that dramatically enhanced the acoustic performance of a GV80.

Addressing Stock Audio Limitations

Factory-installed audio systems are typically designed for broad appeal, aiming to provide adequate sound for all occupants. However, this often results in a soundstage that lacks clarity, with sound appearing to originate from behind the listener and a deficiency in low-frequency detail. The 2020 Genesis GV80 featured in this case came equipped with the Lexicon premium audio option, yet the owner desired a more exceptional auditory experience. After extensive research, the owner chose our shop for a comprehensive sound upgrade using a DSP amplifier system.

The Upgrade Process: DSP Amplifier and Power Capacitor

The chosen solution involved the installation of the German Audio Optik Fischer MATCH 86 DSP unit and a 30F Hybrid Power Capacitor. The DSP, or Digital Sound Processor, is the heart of the upgrade. It digitally processes audio signals, allowing for incredibly precise adjustments to sound characteristics. This enables the fine-tuning of individual instrument placement and volume, creating an immersive soundstage akin to a live concert performance.

Installation Process:

1. Trunk Preparation and DSP Integration: The process began by carefully removing existing components from the trunk to access the factory amplifier. The MATCH 86 DSP was then connected directly to the stock amplifier using a plug-and-play (Jack by Jack) cable. This method ensures the original system can be easily restored and simplifies potential future transfers to another vehicle. The 8-channel MATCH 86 DSP was strategically placed in the trunk, powering the front speakers and under-seat subwoofers, while the original amplifier managed the rear channels.
2. Power Capacitor Installation: A 30F Hybrid Power Capacitor was installed to act as a dedicated power reservoir. With a massive 30,000,000 microfarad (μF) capacity, it stores and delivers stable electrical current on demand. This is crucial for modern vehicles with numerous electronic components, preventing voltage drops that can affect audio quality and potentially strain the car's electrical system. The capacitor stabilizes voltage delivery, reducing the load on the battery and alternator, and contributing to a cleaner, more consistent audio output.
3. DSP Software Tuning: The final and most critical phase involved approximately three hours of meticulous DSP software calibration. This included verifying speaker polarity, measuring the acoustic environment within the GV80 using a microphone, and utilizing the Audio Optik Fischer software to precisely adjust equalization (EQ) and time alignment for each speaker. The goal was to create a perfectly balanced soundstage, positioning the entire orchestra as if performing directly in front of the listener.

The result is a dramatically improved sound experience, transforming the GV80's cabin into a high-fidelity listening space.
