Safe Removal of Old Tint with Steam

The crucial first step in any window tint re-application is the careful removal of the old film. We utilize a high-temperature steam machine to gently peel away the existing tint. This steam method minimizes the risk of damaging the glass surface. The steam, maintained at around 80-100°C, softens the adhesive, allowing the film to be removed smoothly. Aggressively pulling or scraping can damage the glass's protective coating. Since the previous tint on this K900 was about three years old, removal was relatively straightforward.

Thorough Cleaning of Residue and Debris

After removing the old film, any remaining adhesive residue and small film fragments must be cleaned off. Our technicians used a soft cloth and specialized cleaners to ensure the glass was perfectly smooth. Bonded residue can compromise the adhesion of the new window film. This meticulous cleaning also extends to removing dust from the edges of the glass and around the window trim. This detailed work, requiring patience and precision, significantly impacts the final finish and took about 30 minutes.

Next, a mixture of water and a few drops of soap was sprayed onto both the glass and the adhesive side of the film. This solution acts as a lubricant, allowing for precise positioning of the film.

Eliminating Air Bubbles for a Flawless Finish

The critical step after positioning the film is to meticulously remove all trapped air bubbles using a squeegee. Any remaining air can lead to bubbling or peeling over time. Our technician carefully worked the squeegee across the film, pushing out the water and air from the center towards the edges. This process requires skill to ensure a smooth, uniform finish without damaging the film or the glass. The final inspection confirmed a clear, bubble-free application with excellent clarity and heat rejection.
