While purchasing genuine carbon fiber trim is ideal, the cost can often rival that of a small car. This is precisely why hydrographics has gained popularity. Instead of using actual carbon fiber sheets, this technique involves precisely applying a carbon fiber pattern onto the existing trim pieces. This method offers a significant cost saving of over 50% while delivering the same visual impact.

Interior Carbon Hydrographics vs. Wrapping: Understanding the Difference

Many people mistake carbon hydrographics for simple vinyl wrapping, but the processes are fundamentally different. Wrapping involves applying a film over the existing trim, which can lead to peeling or lifting over time, especially on curved surfaces. Hydrographics, on the other hand, involves meticulously preparing the original trim's surface before applying a new carbon pattern. This results in superior durability and a finish that closely mimics genuine carbon fiber.

The advantage of hydrographics lies in its durability and aesthetic appeal. The finished product integrates seamlessly with the original trim, and complex curves or intricate shapes are handled with remarkable naturalness. The Hydrographics Process: Step-by-Step

The carbon hydrographics process for the CLS53 covers all hard interior trim components, including door panels, the center console, dashboard sections, air vents, and even the steering wheel trim. Our team at Today's Car Gangnam begins by systematically disassembling all trim parts, meticulously documenting each bolt and clip for accurate reassembly.

Following disassembly, each part's surface undergoes thorough cleaning to remove all contaminants, oils, and previous residues. This preparation is crucial for uniform adhesion of the hydrographic pattern. This stage typically takes 2-3 hours, depending on the number and complexity of the parts.

Once preparation is complete, the main hydrographic application begins. A film containing the carbon pattern is submerged in warm water, and the trim pieces are carefully dipped. Air bubbles are meticulously removed using a soft squeegee (around 50-60 Shore hardness) while ensuring the pattern's orientation is precise.
