Porsche Panamera: A Deep Dive into Paint Correction & Glass Coating

This Porsche Panamera, a dream car for many, arrived at our detailing studio after extensive travel, bearing the marks of the road: dust, stubborn bug splatter, and significant brake dust on the wheels. As a fully wrapped vehicle in a matte grey finish, it demanded an extra layer of care and precision. The high-performance brakes had left a heavy residue on the wheels, and the tires were stained a deep brown from brake dust.

The matte grey wrap, closely mimicking the original semi-gloss finish, required meticulous attention to detail. Before commencing the steam detailing, we thoroughly inspected the wrap for any overlapping sections or areas where the film was lifting, ensuring transparency with the owner. Our process began with the wheels and tires, tackling the aggressive brake dust common on high-performance European vehicles.

Wheel & Tire Deep Clean: Eliminating Brake Dust Residue

The first step involved applying specialized tire and wheel cleaners, allowing them to dwell for 10-15 minutes to break down the baked-on brake dust and road grime. Following this, a soft wheel brush was used to meticulously clean every crevice. This process typically takes 15-20 minutes for large, 16-inch+ wheels found on performance cars like the Panamera.

Interior Steam Detailing: Precision Care for Every Surface

Before addressing the exterior, we performed an intensive interior steam clean. Floor mats were removed, and high-pressure steam (100-120°C) was used to sanitize the carpets and floor. After steaming, an air gun was employed to remove residual moisture, followed by thorough drying to prevent mold and odors. The interior, featuring prominent beige trim, is prone to showing dirt, necessitating the use of mild, pH-neutral cleaning agents to avoid damaging the leather or accelerating its aging process. Even the 2nd-row LCD display received a detailed cleaning and a protective dressing. Crucial areas often overlooked, such as the gaps around the taillights, under the spoiler, and around the rearview mirror, were meticulously cleaned.

Panel-by-Panel Cleaning: Preserving Wrap Integrity

The steering wheel airbag cover, with its khaki-like hue, and the gloss black trim on the gear shifter and center console are susceptible to color changes and micro-scratches, respectively. Careful pressure control during cleaning is essential. Emblems and logos were cleaned with brushes, as steam can dislodge hidden dirt, requiring follow-up detailing. The side mirrors, particularly on wrapped vehicles, accumulate dirt in the folded and overlapping film areas, which was communicated to the owner beforehand.

Exterior Steam Wash: Restoring Gloss on the Matte Wrap

While the matte grey wrap didn't immediately appear heavily soiled, the application of steam revealed a significant amount of hidden contaminants. Steam cleaning effectively removes stubborn alkaline contaminants like bird droppings, tree sap, and tar that regular washing cannot tackle. Given the unique paint composition of European cars, high-temperature steam requires careful application to avoid damage. Our detailing process ensures the integrity of the wrap while restoring its clean, sharp appearance.
