Wheel Damage Diagnosis and Preparation

Upon arrival, the Q8's wheels showed significant cosmetic damage from scuffing. The initial step involved removing the tires and wheels from the vehicle to accurately assess the extent of the damage. Fortunately, the scratches were superficial, confined to the surface layer without compromising the wheel's structural integrity. This made it an ideal candidate for diamond cutting.

The depth of the damage is crucial; deeper scratches require more material removal, while minor ones allow for minimal machining to preserve the original wheel shape. Accurate assessment prevents over-machining, which can affect wheel balance and design.

Surface Cleaning and Contaminant Removal

Before the diamond cutting process, meticulous cleaning is essential. This involves removing old balance weights and adhesive tape. Subsequently, sandblasting is employed to strip away oxidation and contaminants using high-pressure abrasive particles. The wheel is then thoroughly cleaned with specialized detergents and chemical solutions, followed by degreasing.
