This Genesis GV80 underwent a complete window tinting replacement. The original film, a mid-grade 3M XP product, had succumbed to age and discoloration. We opted for the premium Royal Series 901 film, known for its exceptional heat rejection and long-term color stability. This process not only restored the vehicle's aesthetic to a like-new condition but also significantly enhanced its interior comfort. The Royal 901 film boasts over 95% infrared (IR) heat rejection, making it an excellent choice for combating summer heat.

Preparation and Film Removal

Upon arrival, the GV80's existing tint showed noticeable fading. Removing aged film can be time-consuming, but this particular installation took approximately two hours using steam to soften the adhesive. A crucial detail observed during removal was the method used for the rear defroster lines. Some shops still apply tint in separate pieces for these areas, which compromises both aesthetics and future replacement ease. It's vital to ensure the entire rear window is tinted with a single, continuous piece of film for a seamless finish and easier maintenance.

Deep Cleaning and Surface Inspection

As this was a full re-application, meticulous cleaning of all glass surfaces was paramount. This involved multiple cleaning cycles for the front, sides, and rear windows to remove any residual adhesive, steam marks, or microscopic scratches left from the previous tint. Skipping this critical pre-treatment step can lead to new film lifting or bubbling. We also perform a 'touch test' to detect any remaining contaminants that might not be visible but could affect the new tint's adhesion and clarity. Royal Series 901: Features and Installation

The Royal Series 901 is the top-tier offering in the Royal Series lineup, providing over 95% IR heat rejection. For this GV80, we applied a 30% VLT (Visible Light Transmission) film to the front windshield for optimal visibility and a 10% VLT to the side and rear windows for enhanced privacy. Premium films like the Royal 901 are engineered for superior color stability, resisting fading for over five years due to thicker, higher-quality UV protective coatings. Unlike standard films that may start to fade in 3-4 years, the Royal 901 maintains its original appearance throughout the vehicle's lifespan.

The installation process involves precision cutting of the film to match the GV80's complex curves. Skilled technicians use water spray to lubricate the glass and film, allowing for precise positioning and the removal of air bubbles. Special care is taken around the rear defroster lines to avoid damaging the heating elements. The film is then carefully squeegeed to ensure a smooth, bubble-free finish. After installation, the tint requires a curing period, typically a few days, during which owners should avoid rolling down windows.

The estimated cost for this premium re-application in Korea was approximately 300,000 KRW, which translates to roughly $220 USD.
