Genesis Stinger Ambient Lighting: The Need for Subtle Interior Illumination

Upon taking delivery of my new Genesis Stinger, one of my first priorities was to enhance its interior ambiance. I was particularly drawn to the allure of ambient lighting, which casts a soft glow within the cabin during night drives. However, the Stinger's specific design presented a challenge. Traditional fiber optic or acrylic ambient lighting often leaves the light source exposed, which I found aesthetically unappealing. During a consultation with 'Today's Car' at their Yongin branch, the specialist proposed a solution: a completely non-exposed, custom-molded installation tailored to the vehicle's structure.

My primary concern during the consultation wasn't just brightness, but achieving a natural, integrated look. The goal was to create a soft atmosphere without the light source being directly visible, a feat difficult to accomplish with standard exposed methods. After comparing several options, I entrusted 'Today's Car' Yongin branch with the project, confident in their custom molding expertise and experience.

Genesis Stinger Ambient Lighting Installation Process: A Custom Approach

The installation began with an assessment of the Stinger's dashboard. Fortunately, the area behind the navigation system in the Stinger provides ample space for concealed indirect lighting. The doors, however, required a more innovative approach, as the door lines lack the typical structures for conventional lighting integration.

Standard installations often involve exposing fiber optics along the door panels or inserting acrylic strips into seams, both of which result in visible light sources. The technician determined that a completely different strategy was needed to achieve a truly non-exposed effect.

The process involved precise measurement of the door line's curves and angles to create custom-fit moldings. These handcrafted moldings were designed to conceal the LED strips internally. This method ensures that the light source remains hidden while emitting a soft, diffused glow that spreads naturally. The edges of the custom moldings were also rounded for a seamless finish, blending perfectly with the car's existing lines.

Installation commenced with the dashboard, where the LEDs were positioned behind the navigation unit to create a wide, subtle spread of light, requiring careful attention to height and angle. The door panels were the main focus. Attaching the custom-molded strips required meticulous alignment with the vehicle's color scheme to ensure a cohesive look. Post-installation, the moldings appear to be a natural extension of the door panels.

Genesis Stinger Ambient Lighting: Base vs. Optional Upgrades

The base installation covers all four doors and the dashboard. Several optional upgrades can further enhance the ambient lighting experience:

This upgrade integrates Mercedes-Benz style air vents, complementing the factory-linked door handles for a more integrated, premium appearance. The design respects the Stinger's original vent aesthetics while adding a touch of luxury.

Option 2: Door Pocket Lighting
Adding lights within the door pockets provides practical illumination for passengers entering the vehicle, brightening the footwell area. This option balances ambiance with functionality.

Option 3: Footwell Illumination
This option casts a soft light on the footwell area, enhancing safety during nighttime entry and exit while contributing to a more luxurious cabin atmosphere.

Option 4: Illuminated Door Handles
This feature adds subtle lighting to the exterior door handles, improving visibility and adding a sophisticated touch when approaching the vehicle at night.
