From Damage Assessment to Safe Film Removal

The initial step in any PPF service, especially a repair, is a thorough assessment of the damage. For a matte PPF application on a G63, understanding the film's condition is paramount. Low-quality films can leave significant adhesive residue on the paintwork upon removal, potentially causing damage.

The film on this particular G63 was a premium product, similar to brands like SunTek. It was safely removed using steam, leaving no residue. Unlike cheaper alternatives that can bond aggressively and harm paint, premium films protect the underlying finish while ensuring a clean removal. This highlights the importance of choosing quality film from the outset.

Front Bumper Reapplication: Hand-Cutting for a Seamless Finish

The G63's front bumper is notoriously difficult to wrap with PPF due to its sharp angles and complex curves. Using pre-cut film kits often results in multiple seams and unnecessary panel divisions, creating a "patchwork" effect. To avoid this, Today's Car Uijeongbu employed a hand-cutting method for this reapplication. This technique involves measuring the bumper's contours directly on the vehicle and applying a single, continuous piece of film. The result is a flawless, uninterrupted finish that complements the luxury SUV's aesthetic, with no visible seams.

Crucial to this process is tension control. The film must be stretched precisely to conform to the bumper's curves. Overstretching can distort the film, while insufficient tension leads to poor adhesion. The film was meticulously applied, ensuring it adhered perfectly to the paintwork and was tucked neatly around edges and into crevices, making the installation virtually invisible.

Door PPF: Detaching Handles and Mirrors is Key

Doors also present intricate areas for PPF application, including door handles, side mirrors, window trim, and door cups. To achieve a clean and professional finish, these components were disassembled. By removing the handles and mirrors, the PPF could be applied as a single, continuous piece across the door panel, mimicking a factory finish and eliminating unsightly seams.

Special attention was paid to the door cups and window seals, areas prone to moisture trapping and film lifting. The PPF was carefully wrapped deep into the door frame and around the edges of the door cups to prevent water ingress and ensure long-lasting adhesion.
